Salvation Army, Grace Place - St. Croix County

Grace Place Shelter, located in Somerset, opened in 2001 to provide a temporary shelter to homeless individuals and families residing in the St. Croix River Valley. The former convent at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Somerset, Wisconsin, was renovated to provide accommodations for up to 25 people, and became Grace Place, St. Croix County's first transitional housing shelter. The facility is staffed around the clock with the ability to house 8 families or 25 individuals.

Grace Place Shelter’s goal is to promote self-sufficiency by providing a safe and secure environment, while giving guidance to promote independence. Through education, individuals are encouraged to be responsible for themselves and others. During their 30-60 day stay at the shelter, residents are provided with food, education, activities, counseling, and assistance in finding jobs and permanent housing. By providing a place to live and access to essential community resources, Grace Place Shelter’s programs empower residents to become self-sufficient individuals and families to become independent.
